Ok, so the only thing unaddressed in your original question would be the shortened range on straight throws. While a good idea, I think that without adding that extra complication the fact that you're already getting an accuracy penalty is enough since you're more likely to miss anyway. From a realism standpoint, the ranges aren't really *that* long in the game, and if you think about throwing a baseball, while you're more likely to hit a specific target by lobbing the ball, a straight fastball doesn't reduce your range so much as reduce your accuracy at that range--it just makes it much more difficult to hit that specific target, but you'll probably be able to get the ball just as far (unless there are obstacles in the way, and that's already accounted for since a straight miss trajectory could hit something like a fence, pole, or tree).
